New Website!

NEW WEBSITE

I am slowly resurfacing from years of illness, the past few years I was unable to share or even create art. I decided to make a fresh start instead of continuing with this blog. My new website is jennadecker.com – there you will find my portfolio, a new blog, and a new shop to buy original art (coming soon!)

If you followed me here, I hope you will join me there too! Thank you so much for the follows, likes, and comments over the years- I started this blog in April 2013 when I was fresh out of college and had planned on going to to grad school in a few months. Needless to say, plans changed when my health took a turn for the worse. My last blog post was in November 2015 when I posted this quote:

“If you’re any kind of artist, you make a miraculous journey, and you come back and make some statements in shapes and colors of where you were.”

-Romare Bearden

I hope that’s what I’ve been doing the past few years when I’ve been on hiatus from this blog and everything else. The only way I can wrap my head around years of  serious illness and isolation is to somehow hope it was worth something.

I hope you will continue to follow my “journey” and I  can keep showing you the shapes and colors I’ve found along the way!

Love, Jenna

Drawing with your Eyes

“That was the first time I’ve drawn anything in seven years. I feel like I had been held under water, and someone finally reached down, and pulled my head up so I could take a breath.”

— Tempt

Graffiti artist Tony “TEMPT” Quan could no longer create his art, let alone communicate with his family…Mick Ebeling was determined to help the artist accomplish both of these things. Thus, the EyeWriter was born — a pair of glasses with hardware that allows the wearer to draw and communicate … just by using their eyes.

New Mixed-Media (Part 3)

Jenna Decker

Title: Never-Played Symphony
Medium: watercolor and stitched fibers (cotton thread) on paper
Paper size: 8×10 inches

Another new mixed-media painting! I first paint with watercolors, then hand stitch the paper in a very time-intensive process. The result is an abstract watercolor of flowing and blended colors surrounded by geometric embroidery in 3 colors (tan, purple/mauve, and teal). The beauty lies in the contrast between the organic, fluid layers of watercolor versus the linear patterns of the stitches.
