I’ve started a new category on the blog- “Art by Theme”. Very similar to my “Art by Color” posts, only much more subjective since I will be featuring art that evokes certain feelings, adjectives, nouns, things… I have no idea if the artists who created the work would agree with my chosen themes, but as I said, it’s subjective!
This week’s theme? Silence and Solitude- featuring faceless, silent figures, lonely landscapes, solitary sculptures, etc.
“I have never found a companion that is so companionable as solitude”
Henry David Thoreau
The above images do not belong to me- check the captions for the artists’ information. Find more black and white art here: http://www.pinterest.com/jennabdecker/black-white-grays/
Cara Barer describes her work: “I realized I owned many books that were no longer of use to me, or for that matter, anyone else. Would I ever need “Windows 95?” After soaking it in the bathtub for a few hours, it had a new shape and purpose… Each book tells me how to begin according to its size, type of paper, and sometimes contents.”
