I am slowly resurfacing from years of illness, the past few years I was unable to share or even create art. I decided to make a fresh start instead of continuing with this blog. My new website is jennadecker.com – there you will find my portfolio, a new blog, and a new shop to buy original art (coming soon!)
If you followed me here, I hope you will join me there too! Thank you so much for the follows, likes, and comments over the years- I started this blog in April 2013 when I was fresh out of college and had planned on going to to grad school in a few months. Needless to say, plans changed when my health took a turn for the worse. My last blog post was in November 2015 when I posted this quote:
“If you’re any kind of artist, you make a miraculous journey, and you come back and make some statements in shapes and colors of where you were.”
I hope that’s what I’ve been doing the past few years when I’ve been on hiatus from this blog and everything else. The only way I can wrap my head around years of serious illness and isolation is to somehow hope it was worth something.
I hope you will continue to follow my “journey” and I can keep showing you the shapes and colors I’ve found along the way!
“You put down one color and it calls for an answer. You have to look at it like a melody.” -Romare Bearden
“Imagine a city where graffiti wasn’t illegal, a city where everybody could draw whatever they liked. Where every street was awash with a million colours and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that felt like a party where everyone was invited, not just the estate agents and barons of big business. Imagine a city like that and stop leaning against the wall – it’s wet.” -Banksy
“All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness” -Eckhart Tolle
“The greater the artist, the greater the doubt. Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize” -Robert Hughes
“The artist has to be something life a whale swimming with his mouth open, absorbing everything until he has what he really needs” -Romare Bearden
Art is a guaranty of sanity. That is the most important thing I have said.
An artist can show things that other people are terrified of expressing.
To be an artist, you need to exist in a world of silence.
“No masterpiece was ever created by a lazy artist.”
“If you understand a painting beforehand, you might as well not paint it.”
